2-Kitchen wall decor: Square tile Backsplash
For decades, subway tile has dominated showers and kitchen backsplashes, but square tile is back in a HUGE way! You have all most probably seen how popular tiled coffee tables have been the last few years on Instagram and TikTok. The creative concept of tiled furniture originated in the 1960s with Superstudio, an Italian architecture and design firm inspired by science fiction and urbanism. Although there were outdoor pieces that had some type of tiling back then, usually just tabletops, it wasn’t until 2020 that Ikon København, a Copenhagen based interior brand, went viral on TikTok and modernized the idea. Their new vision went further to include consoles, side tables, coffee tables, and even pedestals whose entire surfaces are adorned with square tiles of all colors. In 2023, the trend extended to kitchen backsplashes, and we absolutely love it.
